Road To Recovery

Road to Recovery
We are not here to offer you medical advice and treatment, please see your doctor and discuss all your options with him or her. But please also read on as there is more to achieving wellness than removing a tumour. We want you to find total health - mind, body and spirit - as all three come together to contribute to your wellbeing.
Mind
Recovery may involve more thinking than you expected. Take your time with it and know that thinking things through will be of huge benefit, your thoughts have an influence over your recovery.

Use visualisation as a tool. This may be a picture you can create of you being well again, a recording that helps you to cast your mind elsewhere or a mantra of wellness you repeat to yourself.

Body
This is more than medicine. This is finding health through your body in much the same way as a person without cancer would do. Of course for you it is of more importance and can require more consideration and persistence.

Nutrition is essential. What you eat and drink will fuel your body and immune system as it fights the cancer it is also important so that you do not lose excessive amounts of weight. So, the better the fuel you give it, the better you will feel. These simple guidelines will help you to do this.

Exercise and movement should become part of your routine every single day. We recommend at least 20 to 40 minutes, 3 to 5 times a week. There will be times when this is difficult but do persevere. Find the right exercise for you whether it is a walk, yoga or pilates. Even gentle range of motion exercises will help you when undergoing treatment and struggling with flexibility muscle pain.

Spirit
There are things we suggest you do to get started. They are:

Gratitude – Be thankful for the good things in your life. Whether they are people, animals, experiences or something more spiritual. Some things will be small- reading a wonderful book- others will be more significant- having family you love around you. Count them all and think about them every day. There are going to be times when you feel gloomy, acknowledge this, but do all you canto thing on your favourite things.

Forgiveness – This isn’t about being forgive, it is about forgiving all wrongs and hurt that have been done to you. This will be personal and can be tough, but letting go will release the energy you have been using to hold a grudge or hurt against someone. Forgiving does not mean you have to invite someone who has wronged you back into your life, it does mean that you have to stop actively being angry or upset with them. Do what you can.

Unconditional loving - Actively loving people without putting expectations on them or wanting them to change in any way will be both liberating and rewarding. When you are loved back in the same way, all will be worth it.
