Rikesh was kind enough to share his thoughts on completing the event with us. Read what he had to say about the experience below.
When I think about the problems I face in my life, I always try and compare them to the extremely unfortunate conditions of the lives of those around the world. For me, not having enough money for a holiday is inconvenient, for many, a holiday is out of the question, even with the available funds. This is why I’ve always tried to adopt a charitable attitude. Humility costs nothing, yet is worth so much, and so when I saw the opportunity to help those people affected by cancer, and to do so by fulfilling a personal dream of completing a skydive, I could barely contain my excitement!
Having done charity work before, I knew how good it felt to be able to help those less fortunate than myself. Especially those with cancer, who, with our help, can be given the tools to overcome cancer, and truly enjoy their lives. Nevertheless, nothing could stop me from being nervous, as I watched those before me. I stood, waiting, my heart racing as I saw the first divers go, my mind racing as I began to question whether I could do this. I’m not afraid of heights, but 10,000 feet is a massive drop! With that said, as I watched the beaming faces of those who had landed, my confidence grew, and by the time I boarded, ready for my jump, I was unbelievably excited to say the least!
On the plane, as we ascended to the required height, I felt calm and collected, primarily thanks to my incredible instructor. He made the experience incredible, and thanks to his kind words, my nerves completely disappeared, and as I leapt out of the plane, from 10,000 feet up, I felt free. The dive was an incredible feeling; a combination of speed and beauty, and as I fell, I began to pose with my instructor for the video, relishing the moment. As the parachute deployed, our speed changed, and the experience transformed from an adrenaline junkie’s dream, to a beautiful, calm experience. I was able to take in the incredible views, and was even fortunate enough to be spun through the middle of a cloud by my instructor, which was the icing on the cake.
After I landed, I felt pure elation and joy. I had achieved a personal ambition, and along the journey, I had met some incredible people, and managed to raise over £600 in the process, beating my own personal target. The experience was life-changing, and I’m very proud to be able to say that I was part of something truly special.
